Travel report from The Lost City:

river lost city

Ciudad Perdida, the Lost City, is an archaeological area including of the old city deep in the jungle in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, Colombia. It was founded around the year 800 BC by the Tayrona indians. Probably it was abandoned ifb with the Spanish invasion, but after this the secret used by local Indians for rituals and idol worship. It was not until 1972 that it was discovered for the rest of the world. I would be on a trip for two reasons: 1) quality assurance for Latinreiser.no that arranges trips to the lost city, 2) self-interest in it to experience something new and very different from what one experiences when one is on tour in Norway or Europe .

It would prove to be a fantastic ride through the Colombian landscape.

stairs to lost city
10am: 00 was our team, consisting of 7 tourists and 3 guides, ready to leave the hotel in Santa Marta and set ourselves on a trip into the Park Tayrona. After 1-hour drive we reached an exit, with a military post where one of the soldiers had a list of our names and had checked us into. The trip went 1-hour time on the Jeep up a steep, hazardous road. The undersigned banged his head on the ceiling more than once. We came to El Mamey, a village with paved roads! A bit strange, the only way affiliated with the village was the muddy road we came in on.
